Pist'n'Broke at Castle Forbes

 Pist'n'Broke at Castle Forbes

The scottish cartie racing season got underway in grand style in the beautiful grounds of Castle Forbes, near Alford, Aberdeenshire this weekend. A total of 15 carties assembled at the start of the day to take on the technically challenging course, but by the end of the day there were considerably fewer.

The day started out mild but damp, but by lunch time the sun was shining and the track soon started to dry out, although under the trees it remained quite damp and slippery for the whole day. The two main challenges on the course were "Chicken Corner" and "Coach house Bend", both of which claimed several victims during the day. Coach house, in particular, was very challenging as the drivers have to slow down enough to negotiate the sharp 90 degree left hander, but not so much that they can't complete the level section that follows it.

Of the 15 teams that started the race, only 8 were still running by the 6th and final run of the day. Centa Bavaria was the fastest cartie on the day, posting a time of 112 seconds, but Pist'n'Broke took the maximum championship points because of their more consistent performance and better aggregate time. Team Alford, the SCA's reigning champion, had to settle for third place and 5 points.

The sidecar class had only two teams in it - Team Weasel and Bush Racing. However, Bush Racing collided with the bales at Coach house on their second run and took no further part during the day, leaving Team Weasel to collect the 7 points for the win.

The unofficial results are attached below, but these are subject to confirmation by the organisers. The SCA Championship standings are as shown below;

Castle Forbes

Where did I finish then! I was certainly among the last men standing. Got five runs in. (but Im not really that bothered cos I had such a good time). Going to make a few changes to The Dog , first off, some holes in the seat to let the water out... does it often rain like that in Scotland, I ll be having a few words with the tourist board as I appear to have been seriously misinformed! . Thanks to all who made me so welcome.A great event, many thanks to Charlie for all his hard work in organising it! By the way you're all a bunch of nutters. Looking forward to seeing you all again soonish.

Scottish rain

It doesn't always rain like that in Scotland. Sometimes it rains much more than that... and at least the rain keeps the midgies away.

According to my unofficial results, you got the third fastest time of the day.
