Guy Martin's Soapbox Speed Record Attempt
Yes I've been following Guy's progress with interest. The program makers contacted the SCA for advice on what records there already are, and we told them that although there is no recognised official world record, they should be aiming for the mid 80's to set a credible record.
The track they have chosen is quite challenging and not really the one I would have gone for. It'll be interesting to see how they get on.
Apparently they are working to the guidelines published by Guinness World Records for what is required to set a world record. Unfortunately the Guinness guidelines have not specified a maximum weight for the racer, so it makes it rather limited use as in order to break the record all anyone really has to do is just make a much heavier cartie. Hopefully the Guy Martin attempt sets a workable benchmark in terms of measurement accuracy and maximum weight so we can have a meaningful record to try to break.
