Aerodynamic Design of Ultra-streamlined Land Vehicles
| |
Aerodynamic considerations are often overlooked when building a first racer, in favour of things that are easier to see and quantify. Teams will often spend much time and money on tyres, bearings and brakes and treat the shape of the bodywork as little more than aesthetics. Spoilers, wings, external cameras, etc, will be added because they "look cool" without any thought to the effect they will have on the cartie's overall drag. But physics says that aerodynamic drag is the most significant factor at speeds over about 20mph.

Flying Start at Border Bogies
|
The 2013 SCA Championship got off to an exciting start at the Border Bogie Challenge, with a new team and a novice driver taking maximum points for an early lead. Zara Lane drove the very impressive Woodworm cartie to an impressive third place overall, and pushed experienced racers Rich Thomas [Lola] and Steve Thomas [C12] very hard indeed.
The current joint champion 'Where's Me Spanners' could hardly have got off to a worse start to their title defence and crashed heavily on the their second run in sight of the finish line. Driver Dom Quinn was unharmed, but the cartie had to retire and will need some repairs before the next race in the series at the Hawksland Hill Run on 7th July.
Registration for the SCA Championship is free, and you can still register if you would like to join the fun. Just complete the online form and enter the events you want to compete in.
The current championship standings are;
| Pos | Team | Border Bogies | Total |
| 1 | Woodworm | 15 | 15 |
| 2 | Team Rooket | 14 | 14 |
| 3 | Nutty's Speed Shop | 13 | 13 |
| 4 | Where's Me Spanners | 12 | 12 |
